Oct 8 Reuters German industrial production rose more than expected in August thanks to an increase in production in the automotive industry.
Production increased by 2.9 in August compared to the previous month, the federal statistics office said on Tuesday.
Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted a 0.8 rise.
Production in the automotive industry is currently fluctuating considerably from month to month and this has an impact on the monthly development of production as a whole, the statistics office said.
In August, the seasonally and calendar adjusted production of motor vehicles, trailers and semitrailers rose by 19.3 compared to the previous month, following a decline of 8.2 in July, the data showed.
The statistics office revised the industrial production figure for July to a 2.9 decline, from a 2.4 fall previously.
Data showed on Monday that German industrial orders fell by 5.8 on the previous month in August, adding to signs that manufacturing in Europe39;s largest economy will not recover in the coming months.
